A Dog Named Tang Saves 92 People From Drowning!

Posted: 08/03/2007

Off the coast of Newfoundland, Canada during a treacherous snowstorm in December of 1919, a ship called the Ethie crashed into the rocks along the shoreline.  There were Ninety-three people stranded aboard the ship as it dangerously lurched against the waves and rocks.  The crew was too far away from the beach to throw ropes to the people on land.  One of the sailors jumped into the water in an effort to swim with the rope to the shore.  However the tides were too much for him to handle and he was carried out into the ocean never to be seen again.

The captain decided that their ship dog Tang was their last hope!  He gave the rope to Tang who took it in his mouth and jumped into the choppy waters.  The undertow tried to drag Tang out to the ocean but he held strong and swam to the shore.  People on the beach pulled the exhausted Tang onto dry land and took the rope from his mouth.  The rope was used to rescue all 92 people from the sinking Ethie!

Tang was given a medal for bravery from the Lloyd's of London, the famous insurance company.
