Courage among Chaos

Posted: 07/01/2009

On July 7th, at 8:50am in the morning three bombs exploded within fifty seconds of each other on three underground London trains. A fourth bomb in Tavistock Square went off on a bus about an hour later.  The bombings killed 52 people, including all four suicide bombers.  Another 700 people were injured.  This event is considered the largest and deadliest terrorist attack on London's transit system in history.

In order to evacuate the people out and get the injured to safety, the area had to be searched quickly for secondary bombing devices.  Without hesitation Jake and Pc Bob were one of the first on the scene.  They cleared the underground subway of any danger and proceeded to the bus explosion were they did the same.

Jake received the PDSA Gold medal which goes to heroic animals who have exhibited courageous acts outside of military conflict.  Jake is only one of two dogs to receive this prestigious award. This award is a testament to the vital roles animals play in saving human lives.
