Well, Hello There Kitty!

Posted: 01/01/2008

In December of 2005 Gary Rosheisen fell out of his wheelchair while trying to get into bed.  Gary, who was susceptible to strokes and osteoporosis was in a lot of pain and could not move off the floor.  He was not wearing his medical-alert necklace that alerts the paramedics, and couldnメt reach the cord above his bed.

Not long after he had fallen he heard a knock on the door, and in walked Patrick Daugherty, a Columbus Police Officer. Daugherty had responded to a 911 call that had come from Garyメs home.  The officer then walked into the living room area where he found an orange and beige striped cat named Tommy laying by the phone.

Gary got Tommy three years prior to help lower his blood pressure, and to trained him to call 911 in case of an emergency.  Gary never really knew how well Tommy was taking to the training, but he always received his treats for trying.

Apparently, Tommy was smarter than he let on because he managed to hit the right buttons and dialed 911.  He rescued Gary, therefore proving that cats are trainable!
